When I spend time with kids, they often ask if they can borrow my iPhone. Although I cave and hand it over it, they immediately know what to do, and have a vast knowledge on iPhone applications that they want to play. It is very surprising to hear that YouTube hosts a numerous videos of very young children to play with iPhones - even 1-years.
You don’t often see children getting addicted to normal phones. The main reason for this is because the interface of the iPhone is so simple user friendly and instinctive that children obviously and immediately "get it". And they do not care about the iPhone error, such as lack of multitasking, lack of tethering, or absence of a physical keyboard. Children are wired to the touch interface, and they enjoy it a lot.
In today’s developed and complicated life style, iPhone has turned into a universally understood part of children's culture. And hundreds of companies have responded by creating special programs for children, making the device even more compelling for children.
It is been noticed that when parents change their phones, they tend to deliver their old iPhones for their children - after loading the applications for children.
In my opinion, the role of the iPhone in the lives of children is an underappreciated cultural phenomenon. This may keep away children from books and other self building activities.
